What we store
Your account (email, name), the photos you add, the trips you import, and the books you make. Photos are private: only you can see them, through your signed-in session or short-lived private links.
Where it is stored
Your photos and data are stored on servers in Germany.
What AI processing happens, and where
To find photos by description and to help build your book, we ask an AI model to describe each photo in a few words (for example: a boat on a beach at sunset). This runs on Google Vertex AI, in the United States. Only the photo being described is sent; the result is stored with your photo.
Search indexes ('embeddings') are computed on our own servers in Europe. When you chat with Escale, your messages and the text of your book are sent to an AI model to answer you.
Escale never tries to recognise who a person is. You can switch off photo descriptions in your account.
Printing
To print and ship a book, we send the book files and your delivery address to the printer you ordered from, and only for that order.
Your rights
You can delete your photos, books and account at any time from your account. Deleted photos are removed from our storage once no book uses them. You can ask for a copy of your data or its deletion by email.
Polarsteps
When you import a Polarsteps trip, we read only that trip, with the link or file you provide, and store it in your account.
